It's funny how many stages two people can go through together -
I met a person in grade 9, just a mere classmate. A nice little boy who did well in school, was socially popular, a good son and an awesome person to be around. As the school year went on, we became pretty good friends. We talked a lot and spent quiet some time together over the summer. I guess you can call it a summer fling. Things ended quickly once school started though. We stopped talking, didn't really acknowledge one another in the hallways any more, only the occasional awkward eye contacts where we would quickly look away. We we still 'friends' but I guess I'd rather call it acquaintances. A little later, we started to acknowledge each other once again, just random comments and such when my friend was around, other than that we'd never talk. Because of certain events and disagreements, you soon took me as an enemy and at this point, I didn't consider you a friend either. Time went on, things died down, we ran into one another and started some small talk. We grew over our disagreements and we're on good terms again.
Yesterday it was the first time he has messaged me in 3 years. We caught up and talked about our lives and what happened back then, and it made me realize how much he has changed... but I could still see how he was the same person I met back in the beginning of high school. There's just some things about him that will never change (in his personality) even if he smoke weed, party till the A.M. and god knows what else he does now.
